Chelsey joins the team!

We are excited to share that Chelsey Myhre Foster (she/her/they/them) has joined Access to Independence as our new Assistant Director. Chelsey brings a wealth of experience, fresh energy, and a strong commitment to supporting our mission and the communities we serve. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team and look forward to more of the leadership, insight, and passion she has already brought to our work. Please join us in giving Chelsey a warm welcome as they step into this new role.

Get to Know Chelsey


Chelsey Myhre Foster (she/her/they/them) joins Access to Independence as Assistant Director with a career defined by advocacy, community leadership, and a commitment to accessible, person-centered support. She has worked in a variety of settings through the years, including adaptive recreation, government, health care, and another center for independent living. Before joining Access to Independence, they most recently worked in peer support and harm reduction for their own business and served as Director of a library, gaining additional experience in community engagement, information access, and resource equity. Chelsey has also provided supportive home care for community members for over 15 years.


Over the years, Chelsey has worked across youth services, harm reduction, crisis response, and family support, bringing a strong systems-level lens to her practice. As both a Certified Peer Specialist and Parent Peer Specialist, she integrates lived experience with professional expertise, ensuring that the voices of individuals and families remain central to program design and decision-making.


Chelsey has been involved in local, state, and national advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening service systems, reducing barriers, and promoting dignity and autonomy for underserved communities. They have led grassroots initiatives, built cross-sector partnerships, and supported community-driven responses to critical gaps in care across Wisconsin. In their spare time Chelsey enjoys spending time in nature with her family and paddling on the waterways of the Driftless.


In their role as Assistant Director at Access to Independence, Chelsey is excited to continue advancing the Independent Living philosophy through collaborative leadership, strategic program development, and a steadfast commitment to expanding accessible, inclusive resources for people with disabilities.

Access to Independence is Funded By
Web Accessibility Statement 

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Access to Independence is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Access to Independence is currently working with an independent website auditor to ensure we become fully WCAG 2.1 level AA compliant.
