Independent Living Services

We offer a wide range of services designed to give people with disabilities, their families, and the general public the tools and resources they need to improve independence, self-confidence, knowledge, skills, and access to community resources. The experienced staff at Access to Independence are readily available to assist you in meeting goals to reduce barriers to living independently.

Advocacy

We support individuals with advocacy on all levels. We help people develop the tools needed to navigate government programs, assist with resume building, and help applying for work. We are also actively engaged with the community and its local leaders to educate, explain, and advocate for the local disabled community.

Information and Referral

We provide information about disability-related issues, resources, and services to people with disabilities, families, professionals and the general public. Can help navigate the many obstacles that may come up in life in areas like housing, benefits, transportation, community supports, and more!

Assistive Technology

Assistive technology (AT) is equipment that helps people with daily living and live more independently. Equipment can be big or small, complicated or simple but regardless of size is geared towards the individual's need(s). We have over 1,000 devices available for loan or demonstration like wheelchairs and walkers, vision aids, wheelchairs, phones, and much more.

Accessibility Assessments

Accessibility assessments are way to evaluate and improve physical and programmatic accessibility.
Access to independence offers home safety, workplace accessibility and ADA compliance assessments.

Skills Training

Our staff provides both group and one-on-one training in areas including, budgeting, transportation, computer skills, cooking, and much more!

Peer Support

Staff and trained volunteers are available to persons with disabilities who are looking for support and assistance. Peer mentors can assist an individual to learn how to cope with his/her disability or learn independent living skills.

Transition Services

Transition is assisting people with disabilities to move out of nursing homes and other institutions into independent lifestyles of their choice; helping to prevent people with disabilities from entering institutions; and assisting youth in transitioning from high school to adult life including next steps such as going to college or obtaining employment.

Youth Services

We can assist youth, with disabilities, up until the age of 30, with things like: IEP/504 advocacy, healthy relationships classes, Pre-ETS curricula for DVR, and children's SSI application paperwork.

Wisloan/Telework

WisLoan is a statewide alternative loan program that allow Wisconsin residents with disabilities to finance assistive technology or equipment needed to live more independently and productively.
