Building accessible and inclusive communities |
We are Access to Independence, a disabled-led organization and Downtown Madison Inc. member. We support businesses, employers, festivals, and event coordinators by tailoring support services, assessments, and training around accessibility and inclusivity.
Creating accessible and inclusive environments allows everyone to thrive and reach their greatest potential. |
The Accessibility Services Program is the culmination of several years of experience providing consultation and technical assistance to ensure accessibility and inclusiveness for people with disabilities. This menu of services provides companies, organizations, governments, and community groups with an opportunity to utilize the expertise that comes from south-central Wisconsin’s only disability-run, cross-disability organization.

Good accessibility is good business! Our services build effective strategies to promote accessibility in community settings. More people with disabilities are living in the community than ever before, and populations are growing older every day. It's important to address accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities, including older adults, to avoid losing customers and a segment of the workforce, or facing legal repercussions. Oh, and it’s the right thing to do.

ConsultationOur philosophy is that exceeding the minimum is in the best interest of every client. Our consultants work to demonstrate the barriers that exist for people with disabilities, and create analysis on how to address those barriers, exceeding ADA law. Consultation services are available to:
+ Existing buildings + Building designs (including landscape and interior) + Parks, open spaces, and recreation areas + Festivals and event spaces |
Technical AssistanceYour partner in building effective changes. We use a combination of surveys, trainings, and policy changes. We then put our findings into a comprehensive report complete with insights, key themes, recommendations and actionable tactics that inform your accessibility plan.
+ Creating policies and procedures + Event planning + Training for leadership, staff, and volunteers + Community engagement strategies (for project planning or review) |
We work with you every step of the way no matter where you're starting from. Our goals is to ensure your accessibility strategy is right for your organization and to equip you with the tools and resources you need to implement and continue this important work.
