Furman's Story

Board Member
Furman Avery is a Certified Peer Specialist working in the Tellurian Transitional Housing Program. Before joining Tellurian Furman worked with Chrysalis as an Employment Specialist. Furman was also House Manager for Solstice House in Madison Wisconsin. Solstice House is one of three Peer Run Respites in Wisconsin. Prior to joining Solstice House Furman was a Certified Peer Specialist at the Guest House of Milwaukee a homeless shelter. Furman has been a peer specialist and advocate for a number of years. Furman is the former President of the Board of director of Grassroots Empowerment Project and has served on the board of directors of several nonprofit organizations that assist those with disabilities in Wisconsin. Furman has also worked in the banking, telecommunication, information technology industries as well as being a security consultant.
Furman is also the husband of the late Karen Avery who is the inspiration for the Karen Avery Award that is given to honor Karen’s legacy in the disability community.
