Peer Support

Working Together

Peer support involves people working together to accomplish a goal. We can match people to work on these things one-on-one
or in groups. People with disabilities can help each other by:

  • Learning skills
  • Getting used to having a disability
  • Becoming good self-advocates
  • Learning about services
  • Providing socialization

  • And more ...

Peer Power is a unique peer-based program designed to support high school students with all types of disabilities to plan for their lives after high school.  Peer Power is unique in that the program is driven by the students.  Peer power members help run and shape their group by talking about their interests and what they need to help them fulfill their goals.  They plan for their future and what they want to do when they transition from high school into the adult world.

Wisconsin Peer Specialist Certification Program

ATI, with the partnership of other organizations, is establishing a career ladder for Certified Peer Specialists (CPS) in the state of Wisconsin, for consumers with mental illnesses.  It will allow for Certified Peer Specialists to be hired in all of the Wisconsin major mental health progrms beyond outpatient care.   This will effectively allow funding for Certified Peer Specialists via Mediciad by meeting CMS Standards for Certified Peer Specialists.  An approved training program and certification exam will be required as well as Continuing Education Hours.  Please contact Alice F. Pauser for more details.
